I got a delicious box of Christmas fabrics called The Snowflake Waltz by Maude Asbury with Blend Fabrics. http://www.blendfabrics.com
My oldest daughter who loves loves loves The Nutcracker was so excited for me to make her something….so pajamas it was! (We wear our lounge pants a lot around our house) After making myself some new lounge pants, both my girls were longing for a handmade set of their own. I went a step further adding appliqué long sleeve shirts and a robe for Sophia since she had grown out of hers.
For the long sleeve shirts I actually bought some clearance soft cotton shirts from H&M and appliquéd the Christmas tree on Emma’s and the Nutcracker characters on Sophia’s using Lite Steam a’ Seam.
Once those were cut out and ironed on, I moved onto the robe.
I only made a couple simple changes to the pattern and used my Babylock serger for almost the entire process.
If you haven’t tried using a serger, I highly recommend it! It makes clothes so quickly compared to always using the sewing machine, and polishes them off beautifully.
The biggest change I made was very small and simple…the robe sashing (the blue Snowflake fabric that goes around the neck and down each length of the front of the robe. I sewed it back on itself instead of sewing it down in the ditch. I didn’t trust myself to get a hidden even straight stitch in the ditch…this was so easy to sew back on itself.
In the end i came out with a darling set of pjs that my girls absolutely love.
